The Green Star: LPM5 Enhancement

 The Green Star

The green comet known elsewhere as Alharazade is one of the few proud legacies of the Gold Clad Giant Kings of Lopango.  Its true name, Kumahira, is used only by the giants and this is the story of the famous comet.  An expansion for the  LMP5 The Gold-Clad Giant Kings.

Note:  this enhancement is inspired by, and adapted from the Green Star Adept prestige class from the 3.5e sourcebook The Complete Arcane.

Long ago the people of the distant land of Zakhara observed a great green comet that appears in skies of Toril once every 87 years.  They named it Alharazade, but none know the origin of this name, nor do they know the true significance of the comet.  It seems to always shine brightest in the equally distant land of  Lopango where its native Natican people call it Q’umirchasca (simple translation of the “Green Star”).

If these disparate folk were to know its true origin however, they might all agree on the name given to it by the Gold-Clad Giant Kings of Lopango, and that is Kumahira, the Heart of the Dragon.

The comet is a rare source of of pride for the Giant-Kings. In the ancient wars between the dragons and the Colossal Kingdom of Ostoria, the stone giant clan that became the Giant Kings won many battles before their shameful cowardice in the overwhelming presence of the red greatwyrm Garyx. Their greatest foe before Garyx was a green greatwyrm called Ondrex (sometimes Ondrexillor the Deadbreaker) who decimated half a dozen clans of stone giants and a titan whose name the comet now holds.

The stone giants used powerful rune magic to bring the greatwyrm to ground at here their greatclubs finally brought the dragon low. The runes they used were tied to the comet and when the greatwyrm lay slain under its nighttime light, its hue changed into the glowing green coloration for which it is known today.

When the comet returns to the skies of Toril, many giants seek out the green tinged star metal that falls from it to various corners of the continent.  Kumahira remains in Lopango's skies for no more than a tenday, and small pieces break off during this time.  Normally, no more than a few pounds are found throughout all of Lopango, so the giants value it even more than their precious gold.  Besides its rarity, its value lies in the fact that it is the one cure to the great shame of their cowardice so many centuries past.

Green Star Metal

As its name implies, green star metal is a material that similarities to both lead and admantine, but it is strongly tinged with the color green.  It is nearly impossible to destroy, but it also becomes pliable too easily at hot temperatures to forge into weapons or armor.  Strangely, the metal reacts to touch in such a way that it can easily be consumed by those who hold it.  While the metal is mildly poisonous, its also confers great benefits to those who consume it, particularly under certain conditions and rituals. The effects of the poison quickly leave the body without any long term negative effects.

In summary, when an ounce or more is consumed the consumer gains the Poisoned condition (no save) for 1 hour, but gains ten temporary hit points for 24 hours.  If the creature is immune to the Poisoned condition, it gains neither the drawback or the benefit.  Additional ounces consumed after the first in a 24 hour period have no effect and are wasted.

The metal has a special effect on Gold-Clad Giant Kings and possibly other stone giants.  Their skin hardens even further, turning metallic and green like the substance itself.  It is unknown how much green star metal is required for such a transformation, but this is a state all Gold Clad Giant Kings seek.  A giant king that undergoes this transformation becomes known as a Child of Kumahira.

Humans and other humanoid races have emulated the giants in the past, but the effects are not entirely identical.  Only a secretive sect of wizards have unlocked its greater secrets, and these are known as the Green Star Adepts.

The Green Star Adept:  Wizard Subclass

A Durable Wizard that can Take the Battle Up Close

In your studies of magic, you came across the stories of the fabled material known to you only as "star metal."  You spent much of your time trying to find samples of this green-hued metal and surprisingly found it necessary to consume.  Now you find changes in your body that allow you to stop hiding behind the swords and shields of your companions.  Continued consumption of the metal drives further changes in your body until you are a living statue.

Level 3: Combat Savant

Choose two spells from the Paladin or Ranger spell lists, each of which can be no higher than level 2, and add them to your spellbook for free.

In addition, whenever you gain access to a new level of spell slots in this class, you can add one Paladin or Ranger spell to your spellbook for free.  The chosen spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots.

Level 3:  Combat Caster

If you are hit in battle and you are Concentrating on a spell, you may elect to take a Reaction to gain Advantage on your save to maintain your Concentration.  You may take this Reaction a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus and all uses are restored upon taking a Long Rest.

Your skin takes on a metallic sheen and some of its hardness.  You gain a Natural Armor bonus equal to your Proficiency Bonus.
